91��Ƭ - “Rise, Serve, Soar” Clear Creek Cleanup Day Volunteer Guidelines

Welcome

Thank you for volunteering for the Clear Creek Cleanup Day. Your participation helps preserve one of Northern Arizona's valuable natural resources while supporting community engagement, environmental stewardship, and service learning. The success of this event depends on everyone working safely, respectfully, and collaboratively.

Volunteer Expectations

All volunteers are expected to:

• Arrive on time and sign in at the registration area.
• Attend the mandatory safety briefing before activities begin.
• Follow all instructions provided by event coordinators, faculty, staff, city personnel, and designated team leaders.
• Treat fellow volunteers, community partners, and members of the public with respect.
• Demonstrate good stewardship of the environment and local wildlife.
• Report any safety concerns, hazards, injuries, or emergencies immediately.

Safety Guidelines

• Wear closed-toe shoes or boots at all times
• Dress appropriately for weather conditions.
• Apply sunscreen and stay hydrated throughout the event.
• Take breaks as needed.
• Never work alone; use the buddy system.
• Stay within designated cleanup areas.

Water Safety

• Wear a properly fitted life jacket at all times.
• Follow all instructions from designated kayak leaders.
• Remain within assigned sections of the creek. NO CLIFF DIVING!
• Immediately notify staff of any concerns or emergencies.

Lifting and Carrying

• Use proper lifting techniques.
• Do not attempt to lift heavy objects alone.
• Ask for assistance when handling large debris.
• Use provided tools whenever possible.

Hazardous Materials
Do not touch or attempt to remove syringes or medical waste, chemicals or unidentified containers, dead animals, sharp objects that cannot be safely handled, or any potentially dangerous material. Report these items to an event coordinator for proper disposal. Team leaders will have sharp containers.

Environmental Stewardship

• Respect plants, trees, wildlife, and natural habitats.
• Stay on designated paths when possible.
• Avoid disturbing nesting areas or wildlife.
• Collect only litter and approved debris.
• Leave natural features undisturbed.

Remember: Our goal is to improve the environment while minimizing our impact on the ecosystem.

Conduct and Professionalism

As representatives of 91��Ƭ and our community partners, volunteers are expected to maintain a positive attitude, use respectful language, refrain from harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behavior, follow all NPC policies and procedures, and support a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.

Volunteers who engage in unsafe or inappropriate behavior may be asked to leave the event.

Emergency Procedures

1. Stop work immediately.
2. Notify the nearest event coordinator.
3. Call 911 if directed or if the situation requires immediate emergency response.
4. Follow instructions from emergency personnel.

Emergency medical services may be available on-site through the partnership with the City of Winslow, subject to emergency response availability.
